My hometown is Manchester. Manchester is situated in the northwest of
England in the county of Greater Manchester. It is the second largest city
with a population of more than 400,000 people.
Though Manchester is not as large as London it has got many good aspects of a modern city. We’ve got many theatres, art galleries, concert halls and museums,
for example the city Art Gallery and the and Museum of Science and industry others. We are proud of our airport which is the third busiest airport in the
UK. with it it is very easy to travel to and from Manchester and through the
countryside. And our tram system Metrolink, which runs through city streets, is clean, quick and quiet.
There are a lot of things to do, visitors can, for example, visit famous places, walk in the park, enjoy shopping or listen to our traditional music and watch folk dances. Our G-Mex Centre is a popular place. However, it was created from an old
railway station. Different exhibitions, concerts and sporting events take place there. In our Chinatown there are many cafés and small shops. There is also a large mall and several big shops and markets with traditional food and nice goods.
Sports, especially football and rugby are very popular in our city. Manchester has got many sports clubs. People like playing or watching sports here.
In my city there are a lot of monuments to famous people. For example, the
Alan Turing* Memorial honours the father of modern computing. There is also a
monument to Abraham Lincoln* and a statue to Queen victoria.* We are very proud that great scientists and Nobel Prize* winners such as Joule* and
Rutherford* worked in Manchester.
I like my hometown. It is a great city. It is always clean. The people are friendly and welcoming.

Wales - an industrial country. No big cities, expect Cardiff, its capital. You need a passport to travel from England to Wales. The Weles speak two languages (English and Welsh), especially in the south. English is taught in schools, Welsh is not, though the two languages are very much alike. The English can easily understand Welsh. Cardiff is an agricultural town. The scenery in Wales is picturesque and wild, especially in the south.

THE HOUSE OF THE FUTURE In the new village of Hamborne, in Kent, Robert Pickford goes to the bathroom and pares for a new day. It is 2020 There is a slight hum as the family water purifier switches on, and as he walks down the way he taps the electricity meter and sees it shows that the family is in credit: his own dmill generator and solar panels are putting more energy into the electricity grid than the sehold is using, adding to the family income. His company long ago moved out of its al London headquarters to cut costs The clampdown on preservatives in food and high oil prices mean that sending fresh food distances is prohibitively expensive. The family keep chickens to have a supply of fresh and grow vegetables because so much imported food is now an expensive luxury.
